Adelaide Zoo

As it was Easter weekend everything in Australia closed down. They are very big on Easter over here. On the plus side it meant that we had a four day weekend. However, since almost everything is closed it's not really much use. However, Adelaide Zoo was open. So in my quest to drag Adam to everything that has a kangaroo in it we toddled off to the Zoo on Monday afternoon.

We did, obviously, see a kangaroo. I didn't take any pictures as they looked much like the kangaroos at Cleland. I have decided that kangaroos are the embodyment of the Aussie male. All they do is lay around scratching themselves waiting for someone to bring them food (Adam, I didn't mean that, it was a joke :@)

However, we did see some things I haven't seen before like a bilby (look it up on Wikipedia). Over here they are trying to do away with the Easter Bunny, not in a Mafia style way, but they are trying to move from the Easter Bunny to the Easter Bilby. Apparently rabbits are a pest in Australia and also not very Australia. So step in the Easter Bilby. And just so you know I would have taken a picture of the bilby, but it's in the nocturnal house and the flashes make them go nuts.

One thing we did learn from the zoo was that animals in warm weather are not very interesting. They like to sit at the back of their enclosures and sleep. Adam thinks you should be allowed to poke them with sticks. Might have been interesting with the tiger. The only animals who thought enough to put on a big of a show were the monkeys. The good old gibbons posed for cameras and did some good swinging action. That's why I have lots of pictures of monkeys, and not much else.

You can't really tell from the picture, but this meerkat just flopped down in front of us for 2 minutes and then got up and started running again. It was pretty strange.

This is my favourite monkey picture. I swear he sat like that long enough for me to take my picture.

These two monkeys were playing the whole time we were there. Born entertainers.
